My Photoshoot

Feel the burn and the fury of my pen. Feel the fire as I fan the flames again...

Today was a special day in that it was the day I received my new camera.

A Mamiya 645 AF2 medium format beast.

Although we went over the hardware and started using it in class nothing beats opening it when you get home, exploring the parts, and re-arranging it in your bag to be JUST how you want it.

So my past 24 hours has been pretty busy. Phone conversations, getting letters, getting a new camera, learning all sorts of new things, and even planning for friends to come visit!

I prepared a feast for dinner that even mom would be proud of and I have been laying on my bed ever since.

Before I wrap this up for today, I just want to remind you about 9/11. The first few anniversaries were very thoughtful and sullen while the past couple of years have suffered in the area of remembering that horrible day. Take a minute.

The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have hallowed it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here.

After a long week and a long day I am ready to crash so I hope you all have a great night and pleasant tomorrow.

Till then, check out this demo of the photo project I am working on. Please give good feedback as I want this to turn out great. The goal is to make the words "the future" be the center of attention and main focal point of the picture. Let me know what I could be doing better.

(click to download a huge version of it. I plan on re-shooting to get a better focus.)

Okay...a professional photographer I am not...that's your area of expertise. However, when I look at the photo you shot, the words "the future" don't seem to be the focus. I find myself looking more at the clocks and the colors around the newspaper. Is there any way you could shoot the photo in reverse?? Like make everything else black and white other than the words "the future"? Or shoot the whole photo in black and white. I don't know. Just a thought. Maybe the type on the words itself need to be larger. Maybe then the words would be more of a focal point. But then again you don't want the words to be too large and become a huge distraction either? Ugh!! What about changing the arrangement of the objects so that the newspaper is located more in the center of the photo. Would that help?? Not sure if all of my ramblings are helpful. I tried. Good luck with it Ace!!

Hey man,

i really like "future" picture. I do have a little concern for it. If you were able to convey the feeling of future without actually having the word future in it. Or maybe, not necessarily having a linear form of the future but it scattered throughout. In any case, it is a good picture and i still wouldn't be able to take anything close to is.

That camera looks like a beast. There was a guy who came into the restaurant to do pictures for some couple's anniversary or something and he had what looked something like that. I think it was that 22 megapixel digital one. oh well, real cool in any case - and so unnecessary for what he was doing.
